We are looking for a Planning Editor to join our busy Gateshead based team. As our Planning Editor you will lead the advance planning of content for the news output, online as well as onscreen. You will liaise with the management team over weekly and long term planning, taking full charge of prospects lists.

Your excellent editorial judgement and professional journalistic standards along with your extensive regional and national contacts will equip you to generate a constant flow of original news and feature ideas. You will also serve as a point of contact for all ideas from colleagues. You will flag up major forthcoming events, programme ideas and initiatives, monitor court cases, tribunals and inquests to ensure that diary entries are made and cases considered for coverage. As a member of the News Executive, you will play a leading role in the management and mentoring of journalists and deputise for the Programme Editor and News Editor when required.

You will be a qualified journalist and have experience of planning content for a flagship regional news programme. You will have a proven ability to take a creative approach, both editorially and visually in production and newsgathering and you will have had experience producing bulletins and programmes. Self-motivated and quick-thinking with the ability to work to deadlines and stay calm under pressure, you will be used to multi-tasking and prioritising your work load. With a passion for news, you will have excellent knowledge of national and regional issues and a thorough working knowledge of media law, Ofcom compliance health and safety requirements.
