The successful candidate will have a strong track record of producing current affairs programs. Their skills and abilities will span the entire process of package production - from ideation and research to interview production and filming on location to script writing through to the final stages of edit producing. Candidates must be critical thinkers with strong news judgment and TV skills. They must have extensive knowledge of global affairs and media issues. They must also have an understanding of our aims.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:• Keep up to date on developments in the world of media - from tracking media trends to following debates about media ethics/politics• Initiate, research and pitch proposals for current affairs stories/episodes that will be reported through the prism of the media (media politics, media critique)• Organise and execute production: including identifying and booking contributors, preparing for interviews, sourcing archive, planning shoots, assist in arranging travel, accommodation and equipment, recruiting and facilitating the hiring of freelance cameramen and production staff• Conduct shoots in the field, including working with camera and technical crews• Conduct interviews • Present the piece on-air as required • Structure the stories/episodes and write scripts to include specially shot footage, archive material and graphics into exciting and informative programmes• Oversee the editing process, working closely with video editors• Review scripts and edited cuts of segments of the programme and make recommendations for changes to meet programme requirements• Oversee final delivery of the specific story, segment or episode to assure they meet editor expectations and network standardsOTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:• Work closely with junior members of the team - provide guidance and supervision for their projects• Perform other duties relevant to the job as requestedEDUCATION:• An undergraduate degree is requiredEXPERIENCE:• Minimum 5 years' experience in TV or related fields as Producer, on long-form factual programmes (documentaries and news magazines)SKILLS:• Editorial research• Booking and conducting interviews• Structuring long-form narratives• Scriptwriting• Project planning• Managing editsKNOWLEDGE:• Wide knowledge of current affairs and media issues• Up to date knowledge of documentaries, discussions or magazine shows• Basic knowledge of Ofcom regulations and legal dangers for broadcasters and publishers• Basic knowledge of camera work• Knowledge of one or more languages other than English is desirableABILITIES:• Creative editorial thinking• Ability to build relationships with people of different backgrounds quickly, often under stress• Ability to work effectively in a team and to take a supervisory/leadership role with junior members of the team• Initiative and resourcefulness• Ability to multi-task and cope with physical, emotional and mental stress• Ability to organise, analyse and synthesise information from many different sources• Discipline to deliver projects on time, on budget and to agreed planJOB REQUIREMENTS:• Persistence, creativity, oversight on challenging projects, ability to get the most from limited budgets and resourcesPERFORMANCE MEASURES:• Quality of output• Depth and accuracy of information and content• Number of packages produced• Time management and efficiency of completing assigned packages
