Our News Editors help drive the news agenda and ensure delivery of the very best content to all platforms by harnessing our newsgathering and technological resources. It's a role for experienced multi-media news journalists with strong editorial judgement and a commitment to high quality journalism and production.
As a Freelance News Editor you will work primarily on the News Desk (sometimes in support of a Senior News Editor), and on occasion on the Planning Desk and out on the road.

Key responsibilities
• Supporting Senior News Editors in running hour by hour home news coverage throughout the UK.
• On other occasions, running the News Desk alone and making key decisions about news stories and deployment.
• Supporting coverage in the field either from the desk or working alongside crews and Correspondents to deliver first class coverage for all platforms from location.
• Sometimes working in Planning to lead the setting-up of the next day's news agenda and planned coverage.
• At all times, playing a key liaison role in ensuring newsroom operations are joined up and collaborative across all platforms.

Candidate criteria - key requirements of the role

• Experience of a high level and high pressure multi-media journalistic environment having contributed content to more than one platform.
• Excellent news judgement and the confidence to plan in advance and organise and deliver your plans and ideas on the day
• Evidence of creative aptitude and enthusiasm - we want original ideas or ways of telling stories on television and digital platforms
• Multi Skilling - ability to understand and identify technology to help the storytelling and to assign and use it on the road.
• Curiosity and passion for ideas and news. A voracious drive to beat the opposition and seek out new and original ways to cover news
