JOB PURPOSE:
This senior news desk position involves driving the ITV News newsgathering operation on a daily basis, both at home and abroad, deciding coverage priorities and managing news teams.

KEY TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Decide and shape the day's news agenda - both home and foreign
- Commission and pursue stories
- Secure exclusive and distinctive editorial content
- Brief and deploy reporters and correspondents
- Present daily editorial plans to programme editors and senior management
- Drive and suggest digital contributions for stories
- Make informed legal and health and safety judgements
- Manage resources such as cameras and crews to ensure all stories are adequately covered
- Plan and manage special projects as requested
- Undertake work in the field alongside reporters and crews, both home and abroad
- Manage daily relations with the ITV regional newsrooms, international partners such as NBC and promote One ITV News

- Excellent knowledge of satellites, newsgathering infrastructure and internet-based technology
- Good knowledge of Ofcom regulations and the ITN compliance manual
- Awareness of Health and Safety requirements
- Awareness and understanding of the financial implications of all decision making
- An understanding of personal responsibility for cross-company cooperation within both ITN and ITV
- Proven ability and experience of planning, both daily and further ahead
