Docu-maker or Ethnographer (shooter & editor) - Japanese-speaking

Japan & London

We are looking for a Japanese-speaking documentary-maker or video-ethnographer (shooter and editor). This is for a research project in Japan and London from May to June (approx. dates: 15th May-5th June). It will involve conducting a number of 5-6-hour filmed ethnographic observations/interviews with Japanese consumers about their lifestyle, routines and family, plus editing.

It is desirable but not essential that you are knowledgeable about anthropology and ethnography; however, it is vital that you have a genuine interest in people and a keen eye for observational footage. It is essential that you speak fluent Japanese, as we will need you to conduct the filmed ethnographic interviews, then edit the footage (FCP7) in that language. You must also be fluent in English.

You will attend briefing meetings in London, fly to Japan to conduct the fieldwork, then return to London to take part in analysis and complete your editing.

This is a very basic outline of what we do, and the dates and duration stated are to be confirmed. Please get in touch if you fit the requirements and we will provide more details.

We may also consider applications from candidates with the appropriate language skills whose expertise is editing (FCP7) but not shooting.
