JOB PURPOSE

Goal UK and Goal International is looking for a dynamic and progressive new Deputy Editor. This is a key position and we are looking for someone who will have a crucial role in the growth of the world's biggest football site in the UK and internationally. You should be obsessive about the future of digital publishing and a perfectionist when it comes to creating shareable content. We have a social, video and mobile first publishing strategy and the successful applicant will have native understanding of digital content creation and distribution across multiple platforms.

The Goal UK/International Deputy Editor will work alongside the Chief Editor to drive consistency in workflows and structure, and deliver a high standard of coverage by developing and communicating a dynamic strategy.

The ability to innovate and identify new opportunities editorially and commercially is a must. Goal.com is the world's biggest football website with 38 editions in 16 languages. A key part of the role will be working with other senior staff in the global edition structure and the central team.

To assist the Chief Editor with growth in audience traffic, profile, credibility and coverage of our UK and International editions.

• Assist the Chief Editor in growing the Goal UK and Goal International editions by implementing a clear and concrete strategy.
• Working with the Goal UK and Goal International editorial team to maintain and develop the master content calendar to increase traffic. Manage day-to- day operations of the online newsroom and social media channels, serving as a senior editor.
• Help co-ordinate, develop, and implement content in collaboration with the existing Goal UK and Goal International editorial team, and with the other regional and worldwide reporters at Goal.
• Track and report on all site metrics.
• To generate, commission and execute content for Goal UK and Goal International at a high standard.
• To work with the Chief Editor and the Content Manager on the scheduling and uploading of content, managing CMS/SEO and co-ordinate with the Content Manager on social media posts.

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED

• To help ensure successful collaboration between editions on all key content strands including coverage of the top European leagues.
• To help monitor competitor sites and keep up to speed with digital and industry developments.
• General administrative duties as required.
• Assist in editing and proof-reading of published content.
• Establish and maintain relationships with Goal UK and Goal International contributors and build a network of new writers.

• Meet agreed traffic targets for unique users
• Meet agreed traffic targets for page views
• Meet agreed traffic targets for page views per visit
• Meet agreed targets for video streams
• Evolve the brand positioning and influence of Goal through networking with the key stakeholders in the industry
• Meet agreed engagement levels for Facebook likes, Twitter followers, and other social media targets that will be key to driving traffic

PERSONAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

• A minimum of five years of journalistic experience, preferably online
• Some previous management experience
• Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
• Strong communication skills, ability to manage remote teams
• Excellent news sense and journalistic instinct
• Expertise in UK and world football
• Good time-management skills
• Expertise in the use of social media, particularly Facebook
• Experience of analytical work e.g. Excel and Google Analytics
