Commissioning Editor

To take a principal role in the editorial and creative management of Channel 4's live and recorded sports programmes - helping to lead the sports team internally and working with a range of high profile indies.

The primary focus is providing detailed editorial support for the Paralympics and all Parasport events, Women's Euros, Formula One, Darts, as well as high profile events such as Crufts.

The role will report to the head of F1 on editorial matters and will require collaboration across the business on delivery of contractual obligations to sports associations and right holders.
The role will involve deep engagement with the contracted producers and other content suppliers, and with other internal colleagues in marketing, press and other genres in commissioning

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• To drive results by helping to manage a complex and demanding portfolio with a focus on creative innovation across all the sports output
• Deliver innovative and award-winning coverage of parasport events leading up to the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.
• Support delivery of F1 and its existing contracts, in association with producers and industry stakeholders.
• editorial and compliance aspects of all sports output
• Work with other genres across commissioning to help deliver related programming (eg. Working with specialist factual or entertainment on F1 or Paralympics related programming)
• Detailed editorial support on other sports priorities including Women's Euros, Crufts, Darts etc
• Work with colleagues internally to deliver high-quality and creative marketing both on-air and off-air.
• Be responsible for monitoring and evaluating other sports opportunities which may arise and which are consistent with Channel 4's objectives, and participate in any pitches/tenders which may arise in partnership with other colleagues.
• Help oversee other areas such as 'Off Peak' where sporting content is also broadcast, and where opportunities can arise through acquisition and ad-funded programmes AFP.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Extensive production and editorial experience in sports programming, to at least senior producer level
• Extensive production experience of live output, including running galleries and constructing running orders
• Strong management and leadership experience and a track record in leading innovative and creative sports coverage
• Significant experience of working in live, multi-sports production
• Knowledge of live sports production budgets
• Proven ability to work successfully in a team and with the capacity to be collegiate across teams.
• High level of organisation skills, attention to detail and initiative
• Experience in handling confidential/sensitive material
• The ability to project manage a number of complex processes and key relationships
• Passionate about sport and communicate that passion within the wider cultural context of Channel 4 and its role as a commercially-funded yet publically purposeful organisation
• First-class communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively influence and network at all levels across Channel 4.
• Evidence of successfully engaging with a range of internal/external stakeholders in the sporting industries for example agents, associations, production houses and talent. Demonstrate a willingness to make further connections internally and externally and demonstrate an ability to build positive and effective relationships with key stakeholders.
• The capacity to find and analyse the relevant data to help the business to deliver a creative sporting experience to air
