Broadcast Journalist

Leeds

A rare and exciting opportunity to be the voice of commercial radio in the North East at drive time - and be a part of the Arqiva nominated Yorkshire and North East news team at Global Radio.

Do you have a great voice and reading style on air? You'll be reading on Capital, Heart and Smooth Radio, with almost 700,000 people listening to your bulletins!.
As well as the brands based in Newcastle, you'll also play a part in delivering regional content to some of the biggest national commercial brands in the UK - like LBC and Classic FM.
You need to be passionate about producing engaging, creative radio news, making sure every bulletin that comes out of the speakers is full of your personality and outstanding content, while also making sure our local bulletins reflect Global and Ofcom's guidelines.
You'll be highly skilled in the use of the full range of social and multi-media tools available to deliver a successful multi-platform news experience for audiences.

This is a 12 month contract covering maternity leave, starting mid-September 2016.

What you'll be doing
As a Broadcast Journalist you'll be passionate about writing original, exciting news and current affairs content across multiple platforms.
You'll help deliver, using multi-media and social media, exclusive content and stories across different platforms with the aim of producing potentially award winning coverage.

You'll aspire to producing outstanding writing and presentation of exciting news and current affairs on air, online and on social media, within brand style guidelines.
You should be capable of working at other Broadcast Centres.

What we expect of you
Global Radio's Broadcast Journalists should be obsessed by the news and have previous experience of creating original radio and online journalism.
You'll have a good reading style and excellent voice and will be just as at ease presenting either pre-recorded or live bulletins.
You should be experienced at reporting, desk editing and bulletin production.
You'll also need to have good relationships within Global and be aware of key relationships at any brand-licensed stations.
Excellent networking skills are required, alongside a great knowledge of news issues in your region. You should be contributing to an effective contacts database.
You'll have a good understanding of media law and aware of the Ofcom Broadcast Code.
A full, clean UK Driving License is essential.

This role can be based either from our Leeds or Newcastle city centre broadcast centres.
