Assistant Stage Manager

To work with the stage management team and in conjunction with the production department, provide practical and organisational support to the director, actors, designers, stage crew and technicians throughout the production
Key responsibilities:To assist with the smooth running of rehearsals.
Ensuring that all rehearsal props and furnishings are available during rehearsals.
Marking up for rehearsals with the stage management team.
Liaising with the Creative Team at all times to resolve any problems which may arise during rehearsals or the performance run.
To work with the stage manager and freelance designers sourcing or making props and furniture and making sure they are maintained throughout the performance.
Ensuring all work complies with health and safety legislation and in-house policies.
To work on stage during performances, technical and dress rehearsals, co-ordinating stage crew and moving props and scenery as needed.
To lead in efficiently maintaining the Props Store and ensuring all props loans are accurately recorded in conjunction with the SM and DSM. Also to manage the storage and moving of props/furniture around the building and externally as required in conjunction with the SM and DSM
Fully participate with any additional events associated with either shows (talks, education events, gala evenings, press requests etc) or with Learning department projects such as NT Connections or Summer School as required.
Assisting with all Sheffield Theatres Productions and events in addition to any show allocation as required
Where possible learn to cue the show in the absence of the Deputy Stage Manager.
To help familiarise freelance stage management with Sheffield Theatres policies and the Sheffield environs.
To maintain and update ASM guide for freelance staff.
To assist the team in the maintenance and organisation of the rehearsal spaces.
GeneralAs a term of your employment you may also be asked to undertake other such appropriate duties as and when required of you, as well as being asked to work flexible hours to suit the operation of the organisation.
Participate in all training and development initiatives as required.
Comply with the organisation's policies and legal obligation regarding health and safety, environmental health and employment practices.
The position of Assistant Stage Manager may involve access to persons who are disabled or under the age of 18 or over 65 and appointment is subject to being checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly Criminal Records Bureau). EssentialExperience of working on large cast productions.
Substantive previous experience of stage management work including demonstrative experience in the delivery of productions at the highest artistic and technical level.
Knowledge of health and safety laws and evidence of working with them in practice.
An interest in and empathy for the arts.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including a good standard of spoken and written English.
Good ICT skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office's Word, Excel, Outlook.
Excellent organisational skills with a high level of attention to detail and ability to manage a heavy work-load efficiently and effectively.
Ability to work effectively within a busy environment including periods of intense pressure to meet non-negotiable deadlines (First Night).
Enthusiasm and calmness - to lead by example.
A team-player who is personable, diplomatic and has the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels both internally an externally.
Committed, self motivated with good team leadership and staff management skills.
DesirablePrevious experience of working in a repertory theatre.
Recent first aid certificate
Full UK driving licence.
